From Him, Through Him, To Him

I really love my roommates…

So God has blessed me with 2 wonderful women for my roommates this year.  Raquel Mendez and Emily Mortvedt.  We have learned so much from each other just in these first couple months.  It’s hard to believe that this might only last a year.  But there is no doubt that it will be a good one :)

Missions in the Main Hall

November 3, 2009 · 1 Comment

So last week at Bethlehem was missions focus week.  John Piper preached an amazing sermon and at the end he called those to the from that felt called to full-time overseas ministry.  Though, I did not sense a calling to “go” (yet)  I most defiantly know that I want to support missionaries as they go.

Missions in the Main Hall is a follow up from that week.  Where anyone from each campus can come and here missionaries testimonies and Pastor John speak about missions.  It was a really cool atmosphere, we all sat on the floor in the Main Hall and listened. Pastor John said some very helpful, convicting things.  Reminding us that this world is not our home, and when you get to your 60’s+ that is not the last chapter of our life, it is the 2nd to last.  Since our life is short and we can have ETERNITY with Christ in heaven to have everything we can now give our life to missions and the gospel (however that looks in your life)

That night was one of the most profitable and encouraging talks that I have heared from John Piper.  I came away different.  The Lord showed me that though, I feel I’m a sender now, I could go.  And I’m excited about that.  These past couple days I have not been able to get India out of my head.  I’m praying about a possible short term trip there this summer.  Pray with me for clarity.

Woah, its October!  (and here in MN there is snow on the ground)

6. BCS Night of Eschatology

Bethlehem College and Seminary hosted their first official event.  It was a discussion of Eschatology with John Piper, Sam Storms, Doug Wilson, and Jim Hamilton.  It had a great turn out, and was a fruitful discussion!

The audio and video from this event can be found here.

Yup, thats about it.  September was good.  I’m interested to see what October brings.  Going home to Nebraska the 17th for a week to attend my cousin’s wedding!  Fun!

Wilson @INSIGHT

September 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

This morning I got to sit in on the INSIGHT class with Doug Wilson.  Last year when I was in INSIGHT my cohort leader, Joe Rigney love using Wilson’s material in class.  So it’s really fun to actually have him here while he is in town for the DG National Conference.

He spoke on Christ and Culture.  One thing he said was, “All culture is a reflection of what their faith is in.  You cant change a culture until your change your belief.”  This is so true.  As Christians we can’t just say, “America needs to go back to its bible roots.” We can’t expect to go in and read the smallest line on the eye chart at the doctor.  We have to start with the big “E’s” (like abortion) and then move on from there.  New laws cannot change a society.  If we have Christians in the legislature and start changing laws it won’t work. “Until the gospel occupies a central place in the culture there is no way to change it.  The Gospel has to be the center.  The main instrument is Gospel.” So the main instrument of change in our culture is not making “christian laws” and “returning to the bible”  (though that is part) but the MAIN instrument is the Gospel.

It was so great being back in INSIGHT class.  It really made me miss last year, but then be thankful that God allowed me to be apart of it.

Nat Con

September 16, 2009 · 2 Comments

Count down to Nat Con 9 days!  For those of you who are not familiar with the term Nat Con it means National Conference.  The Desiring God National Conference happens next weekend, and I am pretty excited about it.  Things that I’m excited about included:

  • volunteering
  • Getting to see Julie and Josh
  • the sessions
  • the people
  • the friends
  • the worship
  • volunteering
  • the bookstore
  • the memories

Its going to be such a great/busy weekend!  Another thing that I’m most excited for is the Collision movie!  It’s going to be great.

What are you excited for?

You can still register @ desiringGod.org or register at the conference at the walk-in registration! (Where I will be working)

don’t waste your fiction

September 15, 2009 · 1 Comment

“I am no disbeliever in spiritual purpose and no vague believer.  I see from the standpoint of Christian orthodoxy.  This means that for me the meaning of life is centered in our Redemption by Christ and what I see in the world I see in its relation to that.  I don’t think that this is a position that can be taken halfway or one that is particularly easy in these times to make transparent in fiction.”

-Flannery O’Connor (1925-1964)

Facebook Fast

September 13, 2009 · 7 Comments

This week my great friends Stephanie (her house blog can be found here)  and I are going to do a Facebook fast together.  We are fasting from 8 am Monday morning to 5 pm Friday night.  Here are some reasons why I’m doing this fast:

  1. I want to see if I get more done.
  2. More than 2 people this past week have told me that I’m addicted to it.
  3. Is Facebook an idol that needs to be removed?
  4. I want to see what will I miss about it, and if they are good things.

So we will see how I do.  I’m actually a little nervous about doing it, but glad that I’m doing it with someone so I can be held accountable.

Hopefully you will see more activity on my blog this week!
